The information on this page is meant to be helpful in terms of clarifying policies and rules, and also gives some advice on what is safe for a gymnastic environment. If you want to speak to anyone regarding any issues of safety or policies, then please contact us so that we may resolve issues together. If you want to, then you may request to speak to our welfare officer. Many of our policies are put in place directly from British Gymnastics, and their website is excellent for finding out more information.
British Gymnastics membership provides insurance for your children and for ourselves in the case of an accident. It is mandatory that every coach and child attending lessons has this
The British Gymnastics annual membership year runs October 1st
Existing members are able to renew their membership on line during September. New members should enrol on line from October 1st.
The current cost of membership for the year October 2020/21 is £19, (or £13 for children of pre-school age for that
school year).- Reduction in fees is available for current members who renew before October 31st 2020
At East Staffs, we require every member to renew their British Gymnastics membership on their first week back in September /October.
For individuals joining at another time in the year, they are required to pay when they enrol for their lessons. Without insurance, you may not be allowed to participate, even if you have paid fees for lessons.
Please arrive propmtly for lessons and have participants ready to start their lesson on time.
We require every participant under the age of 18 years to be dropped off and picked up inside the building.
This is an issue of policy, safety and insurance. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Please adhere to the school parking and traffic flow regulations at all times
Once participating in a lesson for a number of weeks, individuals are expected to wear the club uniform for their lessons.
Suitable clothing (if you do not have the club kit): Plain T-shirt that can be tucked-in, shorts made of a soft material, bare-footed. The club uniform is navy blue
If you do not have kit then please wear your own clothing in a similar colour, or in black or white.
Clothing not allowed: anything that could cause harm or hazard, loose baggy materials or hard studs, for example: denim, combat trousers, unzipped jackets, hoods, clothes with metal zips, studs, buckles, vests, tops that are low-cut, no outdoor footwear.
Feet: Bare footed. Please be aware that it is unsafe for participants to wear socks whilst doing gymnastics as there is a risk of slipping. Unless a verruca is particularly painful or severe, it is widely believed that it is not necessary to have it covered up for gymnastics. If a foot needs to be covered in any way then please fit plasters and/or tape securely so that they do not fall off with activities, and any sock that is worn should fit well and have some type of grip on the bottom of the sock.
Hair must be tied back securely, off the face. If hair is long enough to reach the eyes or mouth then it must be tied back. Headbands should be made of a soft material. Hard plastic or metal headbands are not suitable. Please have hair tied up appropriately before your lesson starts. There is not a supply of hairbands kept at the gym, so please remember to bring your own or be prepared to use an elastic band.
No jewellery is allowed to be worn by any participant. All jewellery must be removed. In the event of fresh piercings, the individual may cover the piercing(s) for their gym lessons until the recommended time period has elapsed, and then should remove the stud(s) from then on. Please do not expect us to provide plasters or tape from our medical box for this purpose, please cover piercings with your own supplies before entering the gym.
Please do not attend wearing wristbands or friendship bracelets or anklets, if they cannot be untied then you may have to cut them off.
